Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治男女聲音不淸, 或失音. 生乾地黃ㆍ熟地黃ㆍ當歸ㆍ黃栢(蜜灸)ㆍ白茯苓各一兩, 天門冬(鹽炒)ㆍ麥門冬(鹽炒)ㆍ知母ㆍ訶子ㆍ阿膠珠各五錢, 人參三錢, 烏梅十五箇取肉, 人乳ㆍ牛乳ㆍ梨汁各一椀. 右爲末, 和勻, 蜜丸黃豆大, 以訶子湯或蘿葍湯下八十丸或百丸. 《入門》醫鑑名鐵笛丸.

Translation

Treats an unclear voice or loss of voice in men and women. Dried fresh rehmannia, cooked rehmannia, angelica, phellodendron (honey mix-fried) and white poria 1 nyang each; asparagus (salt-fried), ophiopogon (salt-fried), anemarrhena, chebula and ass-hide glue beads 5 don each; ginseng 3 don; mume 15, the flesh taken; human milk, cow's milk and pear juice one wan each. Powder and mix them evenly, make honey pills the size of a soybean, and take eighty or a hundred with chebula decoction or radish decoction. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Seongeum) The Uigam names it Iron Flute Pill.

Clinical commentary 臨床

鐵笛丸, the iron flute — a voice that will not wear out — and the formula is Gobon-hwan's two rehmannias and two ophiopogons with three liquids added: human milk, cow's milk and pear juice, all of them the tradition's moisteners.
