Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治陰黃, 肢體逆冷, 自汗. 茵蔯一物湯, 加附子(炮)ㆍ乾薑(炮)ㆍ甘草(灸) 各一錢也. 《活人》一人傷寒, 因下之太遲發黃, 脉沈細遲無力, 次第用藥, 至茵蔯附子湯大效. 一人, 傷寒發黃, 脉微弱身冷, 次第用藥, 至茵蔯四逆湯大效. 《活人》

Translation

Treats yin jaundice with reverse-cold of the limbs and spontaneous sweating. To the Virgate Wormwood Single Substance Decoction add aconite (blast-fried), dry ginger (blast-fried) and licorice (mix-fried) 1 don each. A person with cold damage, purged too late, broke out in yellowing, the pulse sunken, fine, slow and forceless; medicines were used in order, and on reaching Virgate Wormwood and Aconite Decoction the effect was marked. Another with cold damage broke out in yellowing, the pulse faint and weak and the body cold; medicines were used in order, and on reaching Virgate Wormwood Counterflow Cold Decoction the effect was marked. — Hwarinseo 活人 (Donguibogam · Hwangdal)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Sayeok-tang with virgate wormwood added — the classical rescue formula for yang collapse, with the jaundice medicinal grafted on. Reverse-cold of the limbs with spontaneous sweating and a faint pulse is peripheral shutdown, and the formula treats that first and the yellow second. Two cases are recorded together here, and both end the same way: medicines were used in order until one worked. That is how the series was used. **Contains aconite.
