Clinical commentary 臨床

The first of six formulas built on the same base — virgate wormwood at three don, called Injin Ilmul-tang, the single-substance decoction — with different medicinals added. The series runs from this one, which merely drains, through to the aconite and dry ginger formulas below, and the chapter arranges them in ascending order of cold. What distinguishes yin jaundice is set out at 5.7.1: the body and face yellow but the limbs heavy, the back cold, spontaneous sweating, free urine and a pulse tight, fine and empty. The source calls it yang turned to yin through excessive cooling — iatrogenic, in other words. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
