Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

催生神效. 益母草, 於五月五日, 六月六日, 花正開時收採, 陰乾, 不犯鐵器, 搗爲末, 蜜丸彈子大, 每一丸, 白湯化下, 或丸如梧子, 每取五七十丸, 溫酒或白湯下. 《種杏》一名返魂丹, 催生易産. 又治橫逆産, 産後百病. 《入門》

Translation

Hastens the birth with spirit-like effect. Motherwort, gathered on the fifth day of the fifth month or the sixth day of the sixth month when the flowers are fully open, shade-dried, never touched with an iron tool, and pounded to a powder; make honey pills the size of a bullet and take one at a time dissolved in plain hot water, or make pills the size of a firmiana seed and take fifty to seventy with warm wine or plain hot water. It is also called Return the Soul Elixir; it hastens the birth and eases delivery, and also treats transverse and breech presentation and the hundred diseases after birth. — Jonghaeng 種杏 (Donguibogam · Buin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

One medicinal, and the whole entry is about gathering and handling it. Two fixed dates, the flowers fully open, shade-drying rather than sun, and no iron tool at any stage. 不犯鐵器 — never touched with iron — appears throughout the Bogam for medicinals whose virtue was held to be spoiled by metal.
