Cut up, make one packet, decoct in water, add a spoonful of ginger juice, and take warm. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Gwallan)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The two aromatics of the name are patchouli and elsholtzia, the summer pair, and the formula is essentially Hyangyu-san and Gwakhyangjeonggi-san put together with coptis and alisma added. The reasoning is visible in the sign list: a sunken pulse and cold hands and feet say the patient is cold on the surface, while 伏暑 — latent summerheat — says the cause is heat, so the formula warms and aromatizes the middle while taking heat out through the urine. It is the clinical situation 辨證 3.21 warns about, treated by its root rather than its appearance. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
