Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治一切痢, 尤治虛滑痢. 鸎粟殼十四枚, 去筋膜ㆍ蔕蕚, 剉, 醋淹炒, 擣爲麄末; 白朮ㆍ赤茯苓各一錢, 甘草(灸) 五分, 草果一箇, 連皮剉. 右作一貼, 水一椀, 薑七片, 棗ㆍ梅各七箇, 煎至一盞, 分二服. 《海藏》

Translation

Treats every dysentery, and above all a vacuity-slippery dysentery. Poppy husk, fourteen husks with sinew, membrane, calyx and sepals removed, cut up, steeped in vinegar, stir-fried and pounded coarse; white atractylodes and red poria, 1 don each; roasted licorice, 5 fun; one tsaoko, cut up with the skin on. Make one packet, with a bowl of water, seven slices of ginger and seven each of jujube and mume plum, decocted down to a cupful and divided into two doses. — Haejang 海藏 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Fourteen poppy husks, cleaned with unusual care — sinew, membrane, calyx and sepals all removed — then vinegar-steeped and fried. That attention is not fussiness: the alkaloid content varies greatly between parts of the capsule, and standardizing which parts are used is the only quality control available.
