Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治一切瀉痢, 無問膿血. 鸎粟殼(蜜炒) 二錢, 赤茯苓ㆍ白朮ㆍ車前子各一錢, 五味子ㆍ烏梅肉各五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 水煎服. 《丹心》

Translation

Treats every diarrhoea and dysentery, pus and blood notwithstanding. Honey-stir-fried poppy husk, 2 don; red poria, white atractylodes and plantago seed, 1 don each; schisandra and mume plum flesh, 5 fun each. Cut up, make one packet and decoct in water. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Daebyeon)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Six drugs and no cold ones: poppy husk to slow the gut, the two sour astringents to bind, atractylodes and poria to dry and drain, plantago seed to take the water out by the urine. The phrase pus and blood notwithstanding means the Dansim is willing to use it even where there is active exudate, which the chapter elsewhere warns against — this is the symptomatic end of its practice rather than the reasoned end. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
