Translation

Treats lung-visceral wind with hidden rash all over the body and itching, going on to sores or to scabies. Birch bark burnt with its nature retained and bitter orange bran-fried 2 nyang each; apricot kernel and schizonepeta spikes 1 nyang each; roasted licorice 2 don 5 pun. Powder them and take 2 don at a time stirred into warm wine, twice a day. — Gukbang 局方 (Donguibogam · Pi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Birch bark charred rather than burnt to ash — 燒存性, burnt with its nature retained, which is the classical instruction for carbonizing a drug without destroying it. Apricot kernel and bitter orange for the lung and its qi, because lung-visceral wind is read as the lung's own disorder appearing at the skin it governs. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
