Translation

Treats kidney vacuity with ringing in the ears which at night in sleep sounds like a war drum being beaten. Astragalus 1 nyang; caltrop (stir-fried) and notopterygium 5 don each; one large aconite (blast-fried); a pair of sheep's kidneys (baked dry). Powder them, bind with wine paste into pills the size of a firmiana seed, and take thirty to fifty on an empty stomach with a decoction of roasted scallion and salt. — Wigye Bogam 寶鑑 (Donguibogam · I)

Clinical commentary 臨床

夜間睡着如打戰鼓 — a drumming in the ear as one falls asleep. Pulsatile tinnitus, loudest when the room is quiet and the head is on the pillow, described in four graphs. **Contains aconite, which is toxic.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
