Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治脣繭. 黃栢二兩, 以五倍子ㆍ密陀僧各二錢, 甘草二分爲末, 水調塗黃栢上, 灸乾再塗再灸, 藥盡爲度. 然後將栢作薄片, 臨臥貼繭脣上, 天明卽愈. 《入門》

Translation

Treats cocoon lip. Phellodendron 2 nyang; gallnut and litharge 2 don each and licorice 2 pun, powdered, mixed with water and spread on the phellodendron, then roasted dry and spread and roasted again until the medicine is used up. Then cut the bark into thin slices and stick one on the cocooned lip at bedtime, and by dawn it heals. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Guseol)

Clinical commentary 臨床

繭脣, cocoon lip — the lip hardened, thickened and drawn tight like a silk cocoon. 3.15 says it comes of the spleen channel's accumulated heat, and warns that if it ulcerates and will not close it is grave. A persistent hardened lesion of the lip is one worth having looked at. **Contains litharge (lead oxide), which is toxic. For external use only.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
