Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治木腎不痛. 蒼朮 鹽炒 一兩, 黃栢 酒洗ㆍ枳實ㆍ滑石 各七錢, 南星(炮)ㆍ半夏(製)ㆍ山査肉ㆍ神麴(炒)ㆍ白芷 各五錢, 昆布ㆍ吳茱萸 各三錢. 右爲末, 酒糊和丸梧子大, 鹽湯下七十丸. 一方無枳實有枸杞子. 《入門》

Translation

Treats wooden kidney that does not hurt. Atractylodes lancea salt-fried 1 nyang; phellodendron wine-washed, bitter orange and talc 7 don each; arisaema (blast-fried), pinellia (processed), hawthorn flesh, medicated leaven (stir-fried) and angelica dahurica 5 don each; kelp and evodia 3 don each. Powder them, bind with a wine-and-flour paste into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds, and take seventy with salt decoction. One version leaves out the bitter orange and has lycium fruit. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · Jeoneum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

For the hard genitals that do not hurt. Where Cheonnyeon-san treats wooden kidney as cold congealed and pain withheld, this treats it as damp-heat with phlegm — atractylodes lancea, phellodendron and talc above, arisaema and pinellia for the phlegm, kelp for the hardness. Painlessness is the deciding sign, and the Immun reads it as the fire failing to descend and the kidney water failing to warm. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
