Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治一切痛風, 筋脉拘攣ㆍ沉痛, 時或上衝. 川烏(炮)ㆍ草烏(炮)ㆍ南星(炮)ㆍ地龍(焙) 各一兩, 乳香ㆍ沒藥各二錢二分. 右爲末, 酒糊和丸梧子大, 空心溫酒下二三十丸. 《局方》

Translation

Treats all painful wind with the sinews and vessels cramping and deep pain that at times surges upward. Blast-fried aconite kusnezoffii, blast-fried aconite, blast-fried arisaema and fire-dried earthworm, 1 nyang each; frankincense and myrrh, 2 don 2 fun each. Powder, make pills the size of a paulownia seed with wine paste, and take twenty or thirty with warm wine on an empty stomach. — Taepyeong Hyeminhwajegukbang 局方 (Donguibogam · Pung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The Jufang's Soy-hwallak-dan, and the one formula of this section still manufactured and sold as a patent medicine. Six drugs: two aconites and arisaema to force cold damp out of the deep tissues, earthworm to free the network vessels, and the frankincense-and-myrrh pair for pain. All four of the principal drugs are blast-fried, which is the whole reason the formula could be standardized and dispensed — and even so, twenty or thirty pills of two aconites is a dose requiring care.
