The four Substances at 2 nyang each; anemarrhena 4 nyang and phellodendron 8 nyang, each divided into four portions soaked separately in salt water, human milk, honey water, and clear wine — the phellodendron 2 nyang per liquid, the anemarrhena 1 nyang per liquid — steeped overnight, then taken out and given three full days and nights of sun by day and dew by night before being powdered with the Four Substances and bound with honey into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds. 80–90 pills on an empty stomach with salted water; in winter, with warm wine. The formula takes its meaning from 'Heaven-one engenders water, Earth-two engenders fire': it can raise the water and down the fire.

Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑
治同上. 四物湯四味 各二兩, 加知母 四兩, 黃柏 八兩. 用鹽水ㆍ人乳ㆍ蜜水ㆍ淸酒浸黃柏 各二兩, 知母 各浸一兩, 過一宿, 取出知柏, 日曬夜露三晝夜, 入四物同爲末, 蜜丸梧子大. 空心, 鹽湯下八九十丸, 冬則溫酒下. 此藥取天一生水ㆍ地二生火之意, 能升水降火. 《入門》
Translation
Treats the same as the above. The four flavors of Samul-tang, 2 nyang each; with anemarrhena 4 nyang and phellodendron 8 nyang added. Steep the phellodendron in salt water, human milk, honey water, and clear wine — 2 nyang in each — and the anemarrhena likewise, 1 nyang in each, overnight; take them out and give them three days and nights of sun by day and dew by night, then powder together with the Four Substances and bind with honey into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds. Take 80–90 pills on an empty stomach with salted water; in winter, with warm wine.
