Clinical commentary 臨床

**This must not be prepared as written.** Both aconites raw, in one cup — that is the formula's whole character, and it is why it carries the name it does: nothing short of that was thought able to call the yang back from a true cold strike. Raw aconite contains aconitine at full strength and is cardiotoxic at doses close to the therapeutic one. The rest of the formula is sound and interesting: alpinia oxyphylla at chief dose for the cold lower burner and green tangerine peel to break the stagnation, which tells you the patient had pain as well as cold. Modern practice reaches this pattern with blast-fried aconite at a controlled dose. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
