治中寒. 白朮三錢, 甘草(灸) 一錢半, 附子(炮) 一錢. 右剉, 作一貼, 入薑十片, 煎水, 調<a href='/formulas/sohaphyang-won'>蘇合元</a> 三丸, 服之. 《得效》

Translation

Treats direct cold strike. Atractylodes, 3 don; roasted licorice, 1 don 5 fun; blast-fried aconite, 1 don. Cut up, make one packet, add ten slices of ginger, decoct in water and take with three pills of <a href='/formulas/sohaphyang-won'>Styrax Pill</a> stirred in. — Deukhyo 得效 (Donguibogam · Han, lower)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three drugs, and ten slices of ginger — twice the usual — which tells you the middle burner is the target. What makes this formula rather than plain Regulate the Middle is the Styrax Pill stirred into the finished cup: an aromatic orifice-opening formula, added because the patient struck by cold has gone dull as well as cold, and warming alone will not rouse them.
