Dried Ginger and Aconite Decoction

Gangbu-tang

한글 강부탕  ·  Pinyin Jiang Fu Tang

薑附湯

Registered with a suffix to distinguish it from 羌附湯, which shares its romanization. The note that raw aconite makes it Baektong-tang is the source's own, though that formula as given below also has scallion white.

Translation

Treats the yin patterns of cold damage, and cold stroke. Blast-fried dried ginger, 1 nyang; one blast-fried aconite root. Cut up and take 5 don, decocted in water. With the aconite used raw it is called Baektong-tang. — Dangye Simbeop 丹心 (Donguibogam · Han)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Two drugs, and they are the tradition's irreducible pair for a collapsed yang: blast-fried ginger to warm the middle and aconite to recover the source. The variation recorded at the end is the point of the entry — the same two drugs with the aconite raw instead of processed become a different and stronger formula with a different name, which is as clear a statement as the book makes that processing, not composition, is what distinguishes these prescriptions. Aconite is toxic and this is the blast-fried form; the raw version should not be prepared. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
