Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治傷寒陰毒證. 附子(炮) 一兩, 乾薑(炮)ㆍ甘草(灸) 各二錢半, 皂角二挺, 麝香一錢. 右爲末, 每二錢, 水一盃, 煎至五分, 和渣熱服. 一方用白湯調下. 《得效》

Translation

Treats the yin toxin pattern of cold damage. Blast-fried aconite, 1 nyang; blast-fried dried ginger and honey-roasted licorice, 2 don 5 fun each; gleditsia pod, two; musk, 1 don. Powder; 2 don each time in 1 cup of water, boiled down to 5 fun, and taken hot with the dregs. One version takes it stirred into plain hot water. — Uibang Yuchwi 得效 (Donguibogam · Han)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Aconite at a nyang against everything else, which makes it the plainest statement of the yin toxin treatment: force the yang back. What distinguishes it from Gangbu-tang is the gleditsia pod and musk — two orifice-opening drugs — so the formula is for the collapsed patient who is also unconscious, not merely cold. Taken with the dregs rather than strained, which gets more of the material in. Musk is CITES-listed; aconite at this dose needs no further comment. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
