Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治痔瘡腫脹作熱如火. 蝸牛 一箇, 入片腦ㆍ麝香 各少許, 同入瓦器內盛頓半日, 自化成水, 取塗痔上, 痛止腫消立愈. 《得效》

Translation

Treats a pile sore swollen and distended and hot as fire. One snail with a little borneol and musk, put together in an earthen vessel and left half a day, when it dissolves of itself into a liquid; take it and paint it on the piles, and the pain stops and the swelling goes down. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · Hueum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Salt or an aromatic on a snail draws water out of it, and the liquid is mucin with borneol in it — cool, slippery and mildly numbing. It is the gentlest preparation in the section. **Musk is from a CITES-listed species.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
