Donguibogam

Translation

Treats fistulous piles like a spirit. Borneol, bear bile, dragon's blood, ox bezoar, frankincense and myrrh 5 pun each. Powder them; take the flesh of snails and pound it to a thin paste with them. Each night wash the part clean, wipe it dry and smear this paste on the affected place; a few applications and it heals. Keep it in a porcelain jar and do not let it dry out. — Manbyeong Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · Hueum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

不要乾了 — do not let it dry out. The snail flesh is the base, and a moist dressing kept in a sealed jar is what the formula is really for. **Bear bile is from a CITES-listed species.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
