Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

Translation

Treats the phlegm cough of drink. Trichosanthes seed, apricot kernel and coptis, in equal parts. Grind to a powder, make pills with a paste boiled with bamboo sap and ginger decoction, and take them. — Dangye Simbeop 丹心 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three drugs in equal parts for the cough of a drinker: trichosanthes seed for the thick phlegm, apricot kernel to bring the lung qi down, coptis for the heat that the chapter says wine leaves behind. 酒嗽 is given its own sub-section at 3.6 with its own mechanism — wine's great heat meeting cold drink in the stomach and congealing into damp — and both of its formulas are built on this pattern of cutting phlegm and cooling at once. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
