Translation

Treats liver wind breaking out as fright and convulsion, and fetal wind. Cinnabar, scorpion tail, angelica, gentian, chuanxiong, gardenia, rhubarb, notopterygium, saposhnikovia and licorice, 1 don each. Powder the above, add a little musk, and bind with sugar into pills the size of a euryale seed; take one at a time, dissolved in a honeyed decoction of mint and bamboo leaf. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Soa)

Clinical commentary 臨床

This is Sacheong-hwan with additions, and it is worth saying so plainly: angelica, gentian, chuanxiong, gardenia, rhubarb, notopterygium and saposhnikovia are Qian Yi's seven drugs for draining liver fire, here taken out of equal parts into a flat don each and given cinnabar, scorpion tail, licorice and a little musk on top, with sugar instead of honey to bind. The sugar and the honeyed mint-and-bamboo-leaf vehicle are there to get a bitter pill into a child. **Contains cinnabar — 朱砂, mercuric sulfide — scorpion tail and musk, in a pill written for a child, and the chapter gives no dose by weight anywhere. This must not be prepared.** The mercury paragraph under Jinsa-go-soa applies here in full. The rhubarb deserves its own line: a don of it in every pill makes this a purgative as much as a cooling formula, and a febrile convulsing child, or a newborn with 胎風, has no fluid to spare. On what the acute febrile seizure needs, see Igyeong-hwan. For the composition without the mercury and the scorpion, see Sacheong-hwan, which is the same idea and the better formula of the two. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
