Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治肝實. 當歸ㆍ草龍膽ㆍ川芎ㆍ梔子ㆍ大黃(煨)ㆍ羌活ㆍ防風各等分. 右爲末, 蜜丸芡實大, 每一丸, 竹葉湯同砂糖溫水化下. 一名凉肝丸. 《綱目》

Translation

Treats liver repletion. Angelica, gentian, chuanxiong, gardenia, rhubarb (roasted in embers), notopterygium and saposhnikovia in equal parts. Powder them, make honey pills the size of a euryale seed, and take one at a time dissolved in bamboo-leaf decoction with warm sugar water. Also called Cool the Liver Pill. — Uihak Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · Gan)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Qian Yi's formula from the Xiao'er Yaozheng Zhijue, and the tradition's standing pill for liver fire — green is the liver's colour, and draining the green is draining it. Gentian, gardenia and rhubarb cool and purge; angelica and chuanxiong keep the blood moving under them; the two wind medicinals release the liver as Bogan-hwan's did. One pill in bamboo-leaf water with sugar is a child's dose, which is what Qian Yi wrote it for. The Children volume will have it for convulsion. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
