Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治塵砂眯目取痛. 瞿麥 炒黃色爲末, 鵝涎調和, 逐時塗眥頭, 卽開而愈. 《得效》

Translation

Treats dust or grit in the eye, drawing out the pain. Stir-fry dianthus to a yellow colour and powder it; mix with goose saliva and smear it at the inner corner of the eye from time to time — the eye opens at once and recovers. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Two ingredients, applied at the inner corner rather than on the eye itself, so that the tears carry it across — which is how an eye medicine was given before droppers. Goose saliva as a vehicle is the odd part, and the sense of it is that something slippery is wanted to float the grit out. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
