Translation

Treats a worm-eaten toothache. Leek seed and scorpion 1 nyang each; frankincense and realgar 2 don 5 pun each. Powder them, melt beeswax and bind into pellets the size of a bullet; burn one in a porcelain jar, cover the mouth with paper and lead the smoke through a brush-tube to the cavity of the tooth, and the worms all come out. Set the jar in water, and the worms fall into the water.

Clinical commentary 臨床

The smoke is led through a brush-handle to the tooth and the jar then set in water, where something is expected to be seen. Scorched seed coats and wax droplets float in water and look like small pale grubs, which is very likely what generations of practitioners saw. **Contains scorpion and realgar, both toxic. For external use only.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
