Translation

Treats piles of every kind and disperses the swelling. Realgar, sulphur and clear alum in equal parts. Powder them; in a new dish spread half the alum powder first, then the other medicines, then cover with the rest of the alum, and calcine until the alum is withered. Grind to a powder, mix with spittle and apply, until it dries and falls away. Afterwards powder gypsum and gallnut and apply to close the mouth of the sore — divinely effective. — Uihak Gangmok 綱目 (Donguibogam · Hueum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

枯痔 — withering the pile: applying a caustic until the pile dries and sloughs off, then dressing what is left. It is the method the whole of 5.25 is built on, and the same two-stage logic as Jinsa-go with Saenggi-san. **Contains realgar (arsenic sulfide), which is toxic. For external use only.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
