Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

肉蓯蓉五兩(酒浸搗爲膏), 破故紙(微炒) 四兩, 巴戟(去心)ㆍ附子(炮) 各二兩, 胡桃肉二十箇. 右爲末, 和蓯蓉膏, 丸如梧子大, 每十丸, 鹽湯或溫酒下. 食前<a href='/formulas/okro-hwan'>玉露丸</a>, 食後金鎻丹. 服經月, 雖老弱, 下元不衰, 永閉精也. 如欲泄精, 車前子一合, 煎湯服之妙. 《活人心方》

Translation

Cistanche 5 nyang, wine-steeped and pounded to a paste; psoralea (lightly fried) 4 nyang; morinda (core removed) and aconite (blast-fried) 2 nyang each; walnut kernels twenty. Powder them, bind with the cistanche paste into pills the size of a firmiana seed, and take ten at a time with salt decoction or warm wine. Jade Dew Pill before meals, Gold Lock Elixir after. Taken for a month, even the old and weak find the lower origin does not decline and the essence is closed for ever. If one wishes to discharge the essence, 1 hop of plantain seed decocted and taken is the way. — Hwarinsimbang 活人心方 (Donguibogam · Jeong)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Four warming supplements and walnut, with no astringent at all — the lock here is heat rather than binding, and Okro-hwan supplies the binding before the meal. Two pills for one condition, taken at different hours. 如欲泄精, 車前子 — if discharge is wanted, plantain seed. The formula comes with its own key, and the Bogam records both.
