Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治喉痺. 猪牙皂角五錢, 膽礬一錢半, 靑黛五分. 右爲末, 醋糊和丸櫻桃大, 每一丸以熟絹裹在筯頭上, 用好醋潤透, 將藥點在喉瘡上, 咬着筯, 其涎如水卽解. 後服<a href='/formulas/bangpungtongseong-san'>防風通聖散</a><span class='sochu'>方見風門</span>. 《丹心》

Translation

Treats throat impediment. Gleditsia 5 don; bluestone 1 don 5 pun; indigo 5 pun. Powder them, bind with vinegar paste into pellets the size of a cherry; wrap one in boiled silk on the end of a chopstick, wet it through with good vinegar, and set the medicine on the sore in the throat; have the patient bite on the chopstick, and when the drool runs like water it is resolved. Clinical commentary 臨床

咬着筯 — biting on the chopstick, which holds the mouth open and the pellet in place. It is a careful piece of technique, and the endpoint is the same as everywhere in this chapter: the drool running freely. **Contains bluestone, which is toxic.
