Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治耳聾. 甘遂末, 葱汁和丸, 綿裹塞耳中, 口含甘草湯. 兩藥須各兩處修製, 妙. 《入門》

Translation

Treats deafness. Powdered kansui bound with scallion juice, wrapped in cotton wool and packed into the ear, with a decoction of licorice held in the mouth. The two medicines must be prepared in separate places — excellent. — Uihak Immun 入門 (Donguibogam · I)

Clinical commentary 臨床

兩藥須各兩處修製 — the two must be prepared in different places. Kansui and licorice are one of the eighteen classical antagonisms, and the tradition puts them at opposite ends of the same patient on purpose: the pull between them is held to open what lies between. **Kansui is toxic. For external use only.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
