Donguibogam

Translation

Treats kidney qi vacuity with ringing in the ear like the sound of wind and water, or like bells and chimes, or sudden deafness. Zanthoxylum seed, croton kernel, acorus and pine resin 5 pun each. Powder them, melt beeswax and mix evenly, form into the shape of a tube, wrap in cotton wool and put into the ear, changing it daily — divinely effective. — Seui Deukhyobang 得效 (Donguibogam · I)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Shaped into a tube rather than a plug, so the canal is not sealed. 如風水聲 and 如鍾磬響 — like wind and water, like bells and chimes — are the two tinnitus qualities the chapter keeps distinguishing, and 4.4.6 adds a third, like cicadas. **Contains croton, which is toxic. For external use only.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
