婦人血風攻腦, 忽暈倒, 取嫩心陰乾爲末, 酒服二錢, 名喝起散. 《本草》

Translation

Where a woman's blood wind assails the brain and she suddenly faints and falls: take the young hearts of the cocklebur plant, dry them in the shade, powder them, and take 2 don in wine. It is called Galgi-san. — Boncho 本草 (Donguibogam · Du)

Clinical commentary 臨床

喝起, to shout someone awake, and the name is what the formula is meant to do. 血風攻腦 with sudden collapse is a vasovagal faint or an eclamptic one, and a woman in late pregnancy who faints needs her blood pressure taken rather than a powder in wine. Cocklebur earns its place here by the chapter's claim that it 善通頂門, opens through the crown — the Bogam treats a few drugs as able to reach the top of the head, and this is the clearest case. The seedlings and burrs contain carboxyatractyloside and are hepatotoxic in quantity. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
