Translation

Treats the same as above, and treats the wind of all five viscera generally. Gastrodia, 2 don; atractylodes, 1 don; saposhnikovia, chuanxiong, notopterygium and pubescent angelica, 8 fun each; ephedra, 7 fun; dictamnus bark, tangkuei, white peony, white atractylodes, pinellia, red poria, scutellaria, apricot kernel and licorice, 4 fun each. Cut up, make one packet, add three slices of ginger and decoct in water. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Pung)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The Uigam's version puts gastrodia at the head in double the dose of anything else and drops the cassia and aconite altogether. Gastrodia is the tradition's drug for internal wind — tremor, spasm, dizziness — rather than for wind from outside, so the substitution quietly shifts the whole diagnosis: the Gukbang treated a stroke as wind invading, and the Uigam treats it as wind stirring within. That shift is the single most important development in the wind literature between the Song and the Ming, and it can be read here in one ingredient. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
