Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

卽新汲水一椀, 百沸湯一椀相和, 入鹽一合, 頓服取吐. 《本草》

Translation

That is, one bowl of newly drawn water and one bowl of water boiled a hundred times, mixed together with 1 hop of salt added; taken at a draught to bring on vomiting. — Boncho 本草 (Donguibogam · Naesang)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Cold water and boiled water mixed in equal parts, which is what the name records — yin and yang in one bowl. Adding salt makes it emetic; the mixture itself was held to stir the stomach by joining opposites. Practically it is warm salt water, which does induce vomiting. The chapter places it at 1.37 as the whole of its emetic method for food damage. **Inducing vomiting is no longer recommended in poisoning and is dangerous where consciousness is impaired or where a corrosive has been swallowed. A large salt dose can itself be fatal.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
