Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑
治脫肛. 五倍子 半兩, 水三椀煎至半, 入焰硝ㆍ荊芥 各一錢, 乘熱熏洗, 用五倍子末敷之. 《直指》
Translation
Treats prolapse of the rectum. Gallnut 5 don decocted in three bowls of water down to half; add saltpetre and schizonepeta 1 don each, fumigate and wash with it while hot, and then dust on powdered gallnut. — Jikji 直指 (Donguibogam · Hueum)
Clinical commentary 臨床
Gallnut used twice — once in the wash and once dry on the surface. It is almost pure tannin and it does contract exposed mucosa, which is the one thing in this section that works on its own account. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
