Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

一名大薊散. 治辛熱物傷肺胃, 嘔吐血, 名曰肺疽. 大薊根ㆍ桑白皮ㆍ犀角ㆍ升麻ㆍ蒲黃(炒)ㆍ杏仁ㆍ䓀莄ㆍ甘草各一錢. 右剉, 作一貼, 水煎服. 《丹心》

Translation

Also called Cirsium Powder. Treats acrid and hot food damaging the lung and stomach with vomiting of blood, called lung welling abscess. Cirsium root, mulberry root bark, rhinoceros horn, cimicifuga, cattail pollen (stir-fried), apricot kernel, platycodon and licorice 1 don each. Cut up, make one packet, decoct in water and take. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Hyeol)

Clinical commentary 臨床

肺疽, lung welling abscess, is the tradition's name for suppuration in the lung, and vomiting blood with it is haemoptysis from an abscess cavity. Cirsium is the stancher and cattail pollen the second; the rest cool and open the lung. **Contains rhinoceros horn, CITES Appendix I and prohibited in trade.
