Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治吐衄血. 升麻二錢, 生地黃一錢半, 黃柏ㆍ赤芍藥ㆍ牡丹皮各七分, 乾葛ㆍ黃連ㆍ黃芩ㆍ䓀莄ㆍ梔子ㆍ連翹ㆍ甘草各五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 薑三片, 水煎服. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Treats vomiting and nosebleed of blood. Cimicifuga 2 don; fresh rehmannia 1 don 5 pun; phellodendron, red peony and moutan bark 7 pun each; dried pueraria, coptis, scutellaria, platycodon, gardenia, forsythia and licorice 5 pun each. Cut up, make one packet, add 3 slices of ginger, decoct in water and take. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · Hyeol)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The three yellows and gardenia — Hwangryeonhaedok-tang — inside a formula led by cimicifuga at four times their weight. The cimicifuga is the point: it lifts, and the section's reading of bleeding from above is that the blood has been driven up by heat and needs the heat cleared and the qi raised to hold what is left. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
