Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治陰囊濕痒. 麻黃根二錢, 黑狗脊(卽貫衆也)ㆍ蛇床子各一錢, 川椒ㆍ當歸梢ㆍ猪苓各六分, 斑猫四枚, 輕粉ㆍ紅花各少許. 右爲末, 乾傅, 避風冷. 《東垣》

Translation

Treats the scrotum damp and itching. Ephedra root 2 don; black dog-spine — that is, dryopteris — and cnidium seed 1 don each; Sichuan pepper, the tips of Korean angelica and polyporus 6 pun each; four blister beetles; a little calomel and carthamus each. Powder them, dust on dry, and keep away from wind and cold. — Dongwon 東垣 (Donguibogam · Jeoneum)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A dry dusting powder, and the only formula in the group that uses ephedra root as its chief — not to sweat but to stop sweating, which is the whole treatment for a part that will not dry. The Bogam glosses black dog-spine for the reader, a sign the name was already obscure in 1613. **Contains blister beetle and calomel. Cantharidin blisters skin on contact and mercury is absorbed through it. This must not be prepared.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
