Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

鍼砂一兩, 穿山甲末一錢, 拌鍼砂養一晝夜, 去出山甲, 將鍼砂以酒一椀浸三四日夜, 酒口內, 外用磁石一塊綿裹塞耳. 忌怒戒色. 《醫鑑》

Translation

Iron filings 1 nyang; powdered pangolin scale 1 don, mixed with the filings and left a day and night, then the scale removed; steep the filings in a wan of wine three or four days and nights, and drink the wine. Outwardly wrap a lump of loadstone in cotton and pack it in the ear. Avoid anger and abstain from sex. — Gogeum Uigam 醫鑑 (Donguibogam · I)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Iron drunk inside and loadstone worn in the ear — the metal is meant to be drawn toward the stone and the passage opened between them. The simples at 4.14 use the same pairing, with loadstone in the deaf ear and filings in the sound one. **Pangolin scale is CITES Appendix I and banned; it must be omitted.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
