Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治水腫尿澁. 葶藶子(炒)ㆍ郁李仁ㆍ沈香各一兩半, 琥珀ㆍ杏仁ㆍ蘇子ㆍ赤茯苓ㆍ澤瀉各五錢. 右爲末, 蜜丸梧子大. 麝香爲衣, 每三十丸至五十丸, 以蘿葍子煎湯下. 《辨疑》

Translation

Treats water swelling with rough urination. Lepidium seed (stir-fried), bush cherry kernel and aloeswood 1.5 nyang each; amber, apricot kernel, perilla seed, red poria and alisma 5 don each. Powder them and make honey pills the size of a firmiana seed, coated with musk. Take thirty to fifty at a time down with a decoction of radish seed. — Byeonui 辨疑 (Donguibogam · Bujong)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Three chiefs at a nyang and a half, and each works on a different axis — lepidium drains the lung above, bush cherry kernel opens the stool below, aloeswood downbears the qi through the middle. Amber frees the urine and is the one that names the formula. Radish seed decoction as the vehicle rather than water is consistent with the rest: it downbears qi, and the whole prescription treats swelling as fluid held up by qi that will not descend. **Coated with musk, CITES Appendix I and prohibited in trade.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
