Heavenly Truth Pill
Cheonjin-won
한글 천진원 · Pinyin Tian Zhen Yuan
A food-medicine of the most elaborate kind. The first four herbs are powdered; seven geun of lean mutton is split open, the powder packed inside, and the whole bound and tied shut, then boiled in four bottles of glutinous rice wine until the wine has gone. Two doe of water are added and it is boiled again until the meat has fallen to a paste. The astragalus, ginseng, atractylodes, and powdered cooked glutinous rice are then stirred in evenly, and the whole pounded into pills the size of parasol-tree seeds. One hundred pills three times daily, about three hundred pills a day, with warm wine or salted water; where the mass will not form pills, steamed cake is pounded in with it. Note on modern practice: severe wasting with inability to eat requires medical evaluation and nutritional support.
