Translation

Treats mind and strength both taxed and Qi and Blood both damaged — whether toil after the bedchamber, the bedchamber after toil, or vacuity taxation following a great illness — with Qi exhausted and spontaneous sweating. White peony 2.5 don; prepared rehmannia, astragalus, Korean angelica, and cnidium, 1 don each; cinnamon bark and licorice, 0.75 don each. Cut the above, make one packet, add 3 slices of ginger and 2 jujubes, decoct in water and take. — Also called Ssanghwa-san: it is Jianzhong Decoction and Four Substances joined into one formula, most effective for vacuity taxation with exhausted Qi after a great illness. — Various formularies 諸方 (Donguibogam · Heoro)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Perhaps the most beloved formula in Korea — sold in pharmacies as a fatigue drink to this day. Structurally it is Samul-tang meeting Hwanggi-geonjung-tang, with Baekjakyak leading at double dose. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
