Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治唾血. 知母ㆍ貝母ㆍ䓀莄ㆍ黃柏(鹽水炒褐色)ㆍ熟地黃ㆍ玄參ㆍ遠志ㆍ天門冬ㆍ麥門冬各一錢, 乾薑(炒黑) 五分. 右剉, 作一貼, 水煎服. 《回春》

Translation

Treats spitting of blood. Anemarrhena, fritillaria, platycodon, phellodendron (salt-water fried to brown), cooked rehmannia, scrophularia, polygala, asparagus and ophiopogon 1 don each; dry ginger (stir-fried black) 5 pun. Cut up, make one packet, decoct in water and take. — Manbyeong Hoechun 回春 (Donguibogam · Hyeol)

Clinical commentary 臨床

唾, spitting — blood that appears in the saliva without cough or hawking — and the Hoechun reads it as the kidney: salt-fried phellodendron and anemarrhena, the two ophiopogons, scrophularia. The kidney's fluid rises to the mouth as saliva, and blood in it means the kidney's fire. Dry ginger charred is the counterweight, the same device as the cinnamon in Cheonggak-tang. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
