Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治産後血暈. 荊芥穗五錢, 川芎二錢半, 人參ㆍ澤蘭葉各一錢二分半, 甘草一錢. 右爲末, 以溫酒熱湯各半盞, 調二錢, 灌之下咽, 卽甦. 《良方》

Translation

Treats blood dizziness after delivery. Schizonepeta spike 5 don; chuanxiong 2 don 5 pun; ginseng and lycopus leaf 1 don 2 pun 5 ri each; licorice 1 don. Clinical commentary 臨床

血暈, blood dizziness, is collapse from postpartum haemorrhage, and this section gives it five formulas — more than any other complication here. Schizonepeta spike at five don leading the formula is the chapter's signature for this state; it appears again alone at 1.29.2.4 and at 1.29.20.1. Its use here is for the blood rather than the exterior, which is unusual for a wind medicinal. **Postpartum haemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal death.
