Translation

For any toothache, pepper and long pepper must be used, for they can scatter the floating heat within it; supervise them with cimicifuga and glauberite, and assist with the acrid and cool — mint, schizonepeta, asarum and their kind. Where a toothache treated with cooling medicines only grows worse, it should be treated by following it. Long pepper, asarum, Sichuan pepper, schizonepeta, mint, camphor and blue salt, powdered and rubbed on. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Ahchi)

Clinical commentary 臨床

從治 — treating by following: giving something hot to a pain that got worse from cold medicine. 4.7.1 explains why the chapter keeps doing this — the cold is the branch and the heat the root, so the outside is rubbed with warm acrid things while the inside is cooled. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
