Translation

Treats taxation cough. Honey-fried mulberry root bark and prepared rehmannia, 3 don each; ginseng, aster, astragalus and schisandra, 1 don each. Cut up, make one packet, decoct in water, stir in a spoonful of honey and take. — Dansim 丹心 (Donguibogam · Haesu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

Six drugs, and the two at 3 don are the whole design: honey-fried mulberry root bark for the lung above and prepared rehmannia for the kidney below. That pairing is the chapter's answer to 3.14, where cough with rising qi is traced to kidney vacuity — the lung is treated where the cough is heard and the kidney where it comes from. The remaining four are an ordinary qi-supplementing set with schisandra to hold the lung in. Of the taxation-cough formulas it is the shortest and the one most often used; honey stirred in at the end both sweetens it and moistens the throat. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
