Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治産前産後諸疾. 生乾地黃(另爲末)ㆍ馬鳴退(灸)<span class='sochu'>卽蚕退紙</span> 各一兩, 赤茯苓ㆍ牡丹皮ㆍ白芍藥各七錢半, 川芎ㆍ細辛ㆍ人參ㆍ肉桂ㆍ當歸ㆍ牛膝ㆍ白芷ㆍ木香ㆍ藁本ㆍ麻黃ㆍ澤蘭葉ㆍ附子(炮)ㆍ甘草(灸)ㆍ寒水石(煆)ㆍ防風ㆍ桔梗ㆍ蟬退各五錢, 石茱萸ㆍ沈香各二錢半. 右爲末, 蜜丸彈子大, 酒下一丸. 《御院》

Translation

Treats the various complaints before and after delivery. Fresh dried rehmannia (powdered separately) and silkworm egg paper (mix-fried) <span class='sochu'>that is, the silkworm's shed paper</span> 1 nyang each; red poria, moutan bark and white peony 7 don 5 pun each; chuanxiong, asarum, ginseng, cinnamon bark, angelica, achyranthes, angelica dahurica, costus, ligusticum, ephedra, lycopus leaf, aconite (blast-fried), licorice (mix-fried), glauberite (calcined), saposhnikovia, platycodon and cicada slough 5 don each; stone evodia and aloeswood 2 don 5 pun each. Clinical commentary 臨床

Twenty-three medicinals covering everything the chapter treats — blood, qi, wind, cold, water and the two sloughs. 産前産後諸疾, the various complaints before and after delivery, is as broad an indication as the Bogam gives. A formula of this shape is a household standby rather than a prescription, kept as bullet-sized pills to be taken one at a time as occasion required. **Contains aconite, which is toxic, and ephedra, which is cardiovascularly active.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
