Translation

Treats a screen and membrane. Coptis 2 don, cut up and boiled in a bowl of water down to half; then add saposhnikovia 8 pun, the body of Korean angelica and licorice 6 pun each, and prinsepia seed worked to a paste 3 pun. Simmer them together until a drop in water does not disperse; strain off the dregs, add a little refined honey, simmer a little longer, and with a quiet mind dot it on five to seven times a day — dotting at bedtime works fastest. There was a man who had suffered a screen for six years, until the pupil was covered as if with cloud; using this medicine, he was cured. — Dongwon 東垣 (Donguibogam · An)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A real decoction reduced to an eye drop, and the test for when it is done is the best piece of kitchen chemistry in the chapter: a drop in water that does not disperse. Five medicinals, none of them mineral, and the only instruction about the practitioner in the whole book — dot it on with a quiet mind. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
