Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治百合病一月不差, 變成渴者. 百合 一升, 水 一斗, 漬一宿, 洗一身. 已, 宜淡食. 《仲景》

Translation

Treats lily disease that has not resolved in a month and has turned to thirst. Lily bulb, 1 seung; water, 1 mal. Steep overnight and wash the whole body. Afterwards the patient should eat blandly. — Junggyeong 仲景 (Donguibogam · Han, lower)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A month of lily disease ending in thirst, and Zhongjing's response is to wash the patient rather than dose them — which looks strange until you notice that thirst at this stage is not a want of water in the stomach but dryness of the whole surface, and drinking does not touch it. The wash treats the skin, where the dryness actually is. The closing instruction to eat blandly afterwards belongs with it: nothing rich, nothing spiced, because the stomach is to be left alone while the fluids rebuild. Among the oldest external treatments in the canon still worth copying. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
