Translation

Treats lily disease that has changed into chill and fever. Lily bulb, 1 nyang; talc, 3 nyang. Powder, and take 3 don in plain hot water, three times a day. — Junggyeong 仲景 (Donguibogam · Han, lower)

Clinical commentary 臨床

A powder rather than a decoction, three times a day, which marks this as the formula for a pattern that has settled in for a while. Lily disease turning to chill and fever means the residual heat is trying to find a way out, and Zhongjing's answer is to give it one: talc at triple dose drains through the urine, which is the least costly exit for a patient whose yin is already thin. Sweating it out would cost fluid the patient does not have, and purging would cost more. The reasoning behind the route is the lesson here. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
