Translation

Treats wrapping throat wind and sudden throat closure. Alum 3 don; three croton kernels, shelled and cut in six. Fry them together in a pan until the alum is calcined, discard the croton and powder the alum; mix with water and pour it down, or blow it into the throat, or mix with the white of a black hen's egg and pour it in. — Yuchwi 類聚 (Donguibogam · Inhu)

Clinical commentary 臨床

The croton is fried with the alum and thrown away — the pharmacy's method for lending a violent drug's force without giving the drug, which the Flank chapter's Moktong-san uses the same way. **Croton is severely toxic; it is discarded and must not be swallowed.** — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.
