Donguibogam 東醫寶鑑

治五癎鳴吼及風癎暈倒, 吐涎沫掣搐. 水銀一兩半, 黑鈆一兩(同熬成屑), 雄黃ㆍ雌黃ㆍ眞珠各一兩, 丹砂(水飛) 五錢. 右爲末極細, 蜜和杵二三萬下, 丸如梧子大, 薑棗湯下五丸. 《三因》

Translation

Treats the five epilepsies with a roaring cry, and wind epilepsy with fainting and falling, frothing at the mouth and jerking. Quicksilver, 1 nyang 5 don; black lead, 1 nyang (boiled down together with the quicksilver to a powder); realgar, orpiment and pearl, 1 nyang each; cinnabar (water-ground), 5 don. Powder them extremely fine, mix with honey and pound twenty or thirty thousand strokes, make pills the size of a firmiana seed, and take five with ginger and jujube decoction. — Samin 三因 (Donguibogam · Sin)

Clinical commentary 臨床

**This must not be prepared.** Mercury amalgamated with lead, then realgar and orpiment — both arsenic sulphides — and cinnabar: five of the six "treasures" are heavy-metal or arsenic poisons, and the sixth is pearl. 杵二三萬下, pounded twenty or thirty thousand strokes, is the only reason the mixture held together. — Eui Young (Justin) Chung, L.Ac., Dipl.
